Leading avionics supplier to implement IFS business software at three U.S. sites

Continuing its momentum in the aerospace and defense industry, IFS, the global enterprise applications company, announced today that Astronautics Corporation of America, a major avionics supplier, has signed a contract to implement IFS Applications™ 7 business software. IFS’ industry-specific solution, designed specifically to meet the needs of the defense manufacturing industry, will enable Astronautics to improve information flow among more than 1,500 users at its North American facilities along with its customers and suppliers.

Astronautics will deploy the full IFS Applications enterprise suite at its headquarters and manufacturing facilities in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as well as at the New Jersey and North Carolina facilities of its subsidiary, Kearfott Guidance & Navigation Corporation. Astronautics also plans to roll out the IFS software at a manufacturing facility in Mexico.

“After evaluating other leading enterprise software packages, Astronautics chose IFS Applications because of IFS’ proven expertise in the aerospace and defense industry and the knowledgeableness of its team,” said Michael Russek, president of Astronautics. “IFS appears to understand our business requirements. Astronautics was impressed with IFS’ component-based service-oriented architecture, which demonstrates the flexibility to meet our needs both today and in the future. In our opinion, IFS Applications will position Astronautics well to meet the future manufacturing execution system requirements of our major customers.”

“IFS continues to gain momentum in the A&D market because we are the only enterprise software company that provides an industry-specific solution built to give defense manufacturers the agility they need to meet the rapidly changing requirements of their customers, suppliers, and the DoD,” said Cindy Jaudon, president and CEO of IFS North America. “IFS’ support for mixed-mode manufacturing is especially important to companies such as Astronautics, whose facilities combine make-to-order, engineer-to-order, and repetitive production environments.”

Aerospace and defense is one of IFS’ targeted market segments. IFS Applications includes advanced standard functionality that meets the demanding requirements of defense manufacturers. IFS’ fully integrated project tracking and product data management (PDM) capabilities, combined with other IFS Applications components, make it easier to operate while managing the design, manufacturing, and ongoing logistics and maintenance support of complex products throughout the product lifecycle.

IFS users within the aerospace and defense industry include the U.S., British, and Norwegian defense organizations as well as the Eurofighter consortium. Commercial MRO shops and fleet operators include Finnair, Bristow Helicopters, Aero-Dienst GmbH, Hawker Pacific, and Jet Turbine Services. In addition, IFS provides solutions to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) such as General Dynamics, Lockheed Martin, BAE SYSTEMS, Saab Aerosystems, and GE Aircraft Engines.
