Delivering basic utilities to the world’s population is one of this century’s most compelling issues. Our energy & utilities solution encompasses enterprise planning, operations and asset management, combined with capital projects, supply chain and services functionality. The result is an integrated suite, relevant from facilities engineering and construction through operations, maintenance and eventual retirement.
IFS is the only broad enterprise suite vendor whose origins lie in the development of asset management solutions for utilities. Energy and utilities remains an IFS primary segment, with more than 180 best-practice solutions implemented globally. These include some of the world’s largest power generation projects, national grid corporations, nuclear power plants and multi-national generation, transmission and distribution companies. Thereby, IFS Applications supports enterprise asset infrastructures critical to quality of life for millions.
The energy and utilities industry’s ongoing capital construction investments highlight information management issues. Tremendous expense follows from having stove-piped systems for tracking project stages. Addressing this challenge can be a significant contributor to the overall economics of capacity. IFS Applications serves as the system of record – from planning, design, and construction to operations and maintenance (O&M), furnishing stakeholders with consistent, accurate information.
Utilities need integrated asset and financial management to drive better decisions. Equipment monitoring advances, predictive maintenance and reliability-centred maintenance bring structure to asset management programmes, improving reliability and reducing costs. Maintenance efforts are better directed and inventory control improves with tighter integration with procurement.
IFS supports the information supply chain that utilities must participate in during projects, operations & maintenance and revamps. Integrated supply chain management of procurements, inventory and vendors means better availability of goods and services associated with forecasts of planned and unplanned work.
European and some US utilities are restructuring service-related aspects of their business as separate entities. IFS was early in developing capabilities to manage third-party service providers as an integral part of the utility enterprise.
The Three Gorges Project is the largest water conservation project in the world. It is located on the Yangtze River in Hubei province, central China. The project is aimed at improving flood control, producing electricity, and improving navigability on the river. Upon completion, Three Gorges will be the largest hydropower plant in the world, with a total installed capacity of 18,200 MW and an annual output of nearly 84.7 billion kWh. By October 2004, ten of the 26 units have already been put into operation.
An advanced ERP platform was necessary for us to manage the vast amounts of equipment and documentation with as few employees as possible. The rich functionality provided by IFS made them the only ERP vendor that could satisfy our rigourous requirements.Mr. Cheng, Senior Engineer
