Balancing demand and supply

In the chemical segment products are usually sold from stock. Obviously, forecasting and planning are the keys to success. Therefore IFS Applications for the chemical industry offers integrated functionality for demand planning that interacts with the master schedule.

IFS/Demand Planning supports several forecasting models as well as collaborative forecasting, where a forecast or a set of forecasts can be sent to a customer and/or product manager for review. When using collaborative forecasting, the only tool a receiver needs is a web browser. Other forecasting functionality includes seasonality and aggregated forecast capability. The master schedule functionality allows you to work with different master schedule scenarios before deciding which scenario the production should be planning against. Each scenario can be checked against the resource requirements planning, where capacities can be checked against bottlenecks in the production.

Batch optimization

When the production is batch oriented, every batch has to be fully consumed e.g. packed to finished goods level at once, which in a make-to-stock environment means optimizing against forecast. The batch balancing functionality supports the selection of suitable products that are most likely to be needed in stock. Batch balancing is also an excellent tool for keeping multilevel production together and traceable.

Benefits:

  • Web interface for employees
  • Web interface for customers
  • Collaborative forecasting
  • Enabled for mobile clients
  • Cost control functionality
  • Integrated quality control
  • Product traceability

  • Employee management
  • Potency calculations
  • Recipe handling
  • Batch balancing

Versatility and traceability

IFS Applications offers comprehensive support for process manufacturing, including a traditional shop order and/or a slim-line production schedule concept. For product definition it is possible to mix recipes and normal bills of material. The lot/batch functionality offers good batch control as well as full traceability.

Material compliance

Materials compliance documents like SDS, MSDS, and CSDS are the second most read group of documents after invoices. This means that these documents have a tremendous impact on your company image and compliance throughout your customer base. Globally each region and country has specific requirements and legislation for how those documents should be presented. Documents should also be produced in a country's local language.

Develop and trim for profitability

The chemical segment is very often very competitive, and price is one of the most important tools for keeping the business prosperous. IFS offers several tools that find and correct/enhance unprofitable processes and products. In IFS/Costing it is possible to simulate and compare different cost set-ups as well as decide targets and initiate cost reduction processes. IFS Quality Management not only monitors the quality of produced goods, but also performs evaluations using SPC (statistic process control) and capability measures.

Asset Lifecycle Management

In a process environment, maintenance is essential. A trimmed production line is not only more productive, but also produces better quality at a lower cost. In IFS Applications, maintenance can be made a function of production and planned periodically, by usage and/or by reported quality. When designing the process, IFS Applications offers an excellent plant design tool as well as functionality for overall equipment efficiency (OEE) and failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) to make better decisions in the design process.
