Enterprise Asset Management

Modern asset intensive industries are facing increasingly tougher conditions. With fewer resources, companies are expected to produce more products of higher quality and with increased knowledge content. Add to that a very volatile market with rapidly changing demands and the situation becomes very complicated.

IFS Enterprise Asset Management is an information management system that connects all departments and disciplines within a company, making them an integrated unit. Our solution provides production plants with the prerequisites for creating constantly up-to-date information and decision-making data. The application provides valuable support for the company’s strategic and operative processes, as well as being an efficient tool for increased availability, productivity, and lower Life Cycle Costs.

Complete information support

Asset-intensive companies are dependent on complete information support. The system that provides this must be capable of collecting and managing all information throughout the entire life cycle of the facility.

As an integral part of the IFS' ERP offering, our solution for Enterprise Asset Management is in direct contact with all the business processes in the company. Its efficient data capture functionality collects and structures relevant information, from all departments and systems, and makes it easily available to users at all levels.

IFS Plant Design

Most plant information is created within new construction and rebuilding projects with IFS Plant Design, where all information can be collected from both internal and external sources in the design phase. The data is then transferred automatically to the maintenance and administration systems without needing to be re-written or modified. Our Enterprise Asset Management solution supports the entire process from the project phase, through design, to purchasing, assembly and going live.

Minimize unplanned stoppages

IFS Enterprise Asset Management improves the company’s operational and maintenance procedures, both immediately and in the long term. Based on industry standards, the functionality for collecting data from the process and control systems allows the proportion of condition-based maintenance to be maximized, and the risk of breakdowns and disruptions, to be minimized. Profitability is often related to plant availability.

With IFS’ OEE (Overall Equipment Efficiency) and Business Performance tools, disruptions can be measured, defined and related to causes, for instance maintenance problems, lack of competence, or design faults. Based on this analysis, "improvement groups" representing all parts of the organization can collaborate in making recommendations for better solutions.

Competence management

The close link in IFS Applications between operations and maintenance, and the human resources functionality guarantees more efficient competence management of long-term organizational planning at all levels. The system also contains procedures for planning succession, including development programs for replacements for key employees at various levels and in different departments.

Document Management

The document management functionality is an integral part of the complete ERP system, IFS Applications, making all documents from the company’s business processes available to all users. The system fulfills all the requirements for modern document management, with great importance being attached to the accessibility of the system. As soon as they are created, documents and document lists are directly linked to different plant objects, e.g. maintenance activities, preventive maintenance schedules or purchase orders. This makes it easy to access them quickly in all the company’s business processes.

Personal Portal

IFS/Personal Portal, the role-based enterprise portal for IFS Applications, represents a paradigm shift that increases the benefits of current ERP systems. Applied to IFS Maintenance, the contents of the portal cover the most common functions required by maintenance technicians. Via the web, maintenance and service technicians can access job lists, final reports, and fault reports, and graphically navigate through plant diagrams.

Event Management

The component Event Management defines procedures that automatically create messages from the system to the user. For example, it might send a message to the maintenance manager when certain limits for condition-based maintenance have been exceeded, or send a signal when a payment authorization officer has time reports that need to be approved.

Costing tool

Improvements can be made in every plant, in the form of savings and increased production. Fewer breakdowns, increased capacity use, more efficient purchasing routines and better use of human resources are some of the most decisive factors. In major industrial facilities, exploiting this potential can entail dramatic changes. In fact, a rule of thumb states that a company in the process industry with an old information structure will increase its annual profitability by over US $ 12,000 per employee.

Our costing tool is used to calculate the value of this improvement potential. By analyzing costs and revenue, the improvement potential defined is converted by IFS Applications to higher return on assets (ROA) and lower total cost of ownership (TCO). Factors that form the basis for the calculation include:

  • The value of the computer-aided design tools and the continuous transfer of information to maintenance and operations (Life Cycle Management).
  • The value of the increased productivity as a result of enhanced product quality and secured operations at the end of projects/on going live.
  • The value of warranty follow-up after new investments.
  • The value of increased availability via OEE.
  • The value of more efficient use of internal and external personnel.
  • The value of a streamlined purchasing process.
