Akzo Nobel Inks is a market-leading ink producer for printing in the Nordic Region, with a total of over 800 employees in 22 countries world-wide. Before the turn of the millennium Akzo Nobel Inks wanted to invest in a new business application. The existing solutions were old and not Y2K-proof, and a need was felt to use a common system throughout the corporation. The supplier chosen then was IFS, so when the need for a more modern solution was felt, the decision to upgrade to IFS Applications 2003 was natural. Jonatan Manna, responsible for the implementation project at Akzo Nobel Inks, explains: "During the years we have had a very good working relation with IFS. They know our company and have a good understanding of our type of business. This is very important for an installation of this kind." Easy and open
"IFS Applications 2003 has functionality that we will find very useful. The tools for follow-up and analysis that existed in the previous version have been further improved and are very flexible. The pressure on administration has decreased as statistics
are easily available to whoever needs them. Another major benefit with IFS Applications 2003 is the open interface, which makes it very easy to connect other systems." Jonatan is also positive about the enhancements made in different parts of the
solution. "We felt the old solution had a very good inventory and distribution solution, but we still needed to add a few customizations. Of all the things we added, or wanted to add in IFS distribution, more than 90% are now standard in IFS Applications
2003."
Coordinating a distributed company
Akzo Nobel Inks sees major benefits in using the same system in all companies, regardless of where they are located. Coordinating financial systems and reporting saves time and enables more efficient follow-up. Coordination also allows Akzo Nobel Inks to
concentrate the IT infrastructure to as few servers as possible.
