Hunter Paine CFO to discuss success of on-demand IT solution at technology and business conference

Lexite™ wood replacements manufacturer uses IFS-based solution to expand quickly, manage IT costs

At a conference hosted by Start magazine and sponsored by IBM, Colin Proudfoot, chief financial officer of Hunter Paine Enterprises, LLC, Pittsburg, California, will discuss how this startup manufacturer used an on-demand business model to deploy a complete IT solution quickly and economically. Proudfoot is among four manufacturing executives giving presentations at the eighth annual Technology & Business (T&B) Awards, August 11, 2005, at the Hard Rock Hotel Chicago.

Although Hunter Paine is a startup, the Lexite™ brand wood replacements manufacturer didn’t want startup technology. Its technology is built from the ground up using a hosted enterprise solution from IFS and IBM. This has enabled Hunter Paine to focus less on IT issues and more on manufacturing its product. Hunter Paine plans to launch and then grow significantly in the next several years and wanted an IT system that will grow with it.

“The on-demand business model is perfect for Hunter Paine because we are a young, company anticipating rapid growth,” Proudfoot said. “IFS’ component-based application suite, coupled with the pay-as-you-go pricing model, has given us an affordable solution that we can ramp up quickly as the company grows.”

The on-demand solution enables companies to purchase software as a service, paying only for what they use. The pricing model is unique in that companies experience the benefits of aggregation pooling. As other companies buy additional units, the entire pool gets a further price break.

Since implementing the on-demand solution, Hunter Paine has enhanced inventory control, streamlined purchasing, and improved visibility into its financials. The integrated solution, based on the IFS Applications™ enterprise suite, supports Hunter Paine’s corporate headquarters and manufacturing plant in Pittsburg, California. The solution includes industry-specific applications for process manufacturing, distribution, financials, and customer relationship management (CRM). Users will ultimately access the software through IFS’ web portals, enabling real-time communication throughout the enterprise.

“IFS’ component-based technology makes it easy for us to offer an on-demand solution,” said Cindy Jaudon, president and CEO of IFS North America. “The result is a complete, yet affordable, IT solution that is scalable to meet our customers’ needs.”

The process industry is one of IFS’ seven targeted markets. IFS provides industry-specific functionality for enterprises in food and beverage, chemicals, pulp and paper, and metals segments. IFS Applications for the process industry provides a complete asset and product lifecycle management solution along with support for all critical business processes, including batch balancing, recipe management, quality management, and demand planning.

IFS customers in the process industry include DuPont, Pepsi, Iams, XSYS Print Solutions, Willamette Valley, Kettle Foods, Tazo Tea, Jotun, SICPA, and SCA.
