TLT-Babcock among 25% of IFS customers currently upgrading

IFS, the global enterprise applications company, announced today that TLT-Babcock of Akron, Ohio is upgrading to IFS Applications 7.

TLT-Babcock is not alone. According to IFS Upgrade Program Manager Steve Marshall, 25 percent of IFS North America’s customer base is currently in an upgrade process, in the formal planning process necessary to ensure a quality upgrade, or have upgraded within the last year.

TLT-Babcock manufactures custom engineered axial fans, centrifugal fans, dampers, and ash handling systems for the utility, industrial and tunnel, and mining industries. TLT-Babcock also performs professional services including fan upgrades, spare parts, rebuilds, field service, and testing.

Like many other IFS customers that are upgrading, TLT-Babcock is in a project-centric industry that requires a much deeper functionality and interdisciplinary application integration than would a less dynamic and complex company.

“We think IFS Applications 7 is the most significant new release since we have gone live,” TLT- Babcock Manager of Project Administration John Holik said. “We anticipate that our upgrade will greatly simplify our IFS Application use and heighten our focus on projects.”

“We operate on a purchase-engineer-purchase model,” Holik said. “Because of the nature of our custom-designed products, at times we need to order certain long lead-time items long before engineering is completed. Completion of engineering can range from several weeks to a few months, and in the meantime the project is going to require a 10,000 horsepower motor that has a lead time of about one year. Given the project timeline, purchasing can't wait five to six months to start buying. This purchasing challenge was solved through the use of IFS Applications, and we now are able to deliver a bill of materials for engineering to project management on an incremental basis.”

“The fact that so many of our customers are choosing to upgrade tells us that we are moving our products in the right direction,” IFS North America President and CEO Cindy Jaudon said. “It signifies that not only do our customers see that new versions add value to their business, but they see IFS as a long-term partner in their business with a solid vision for the future.”

“The reason many of our customers are upgrading to newer versions right now is to gain greater functionality within IFS Applications,” Marshall said. “Many of our customers are also looking forward to leveraging new system-wide tools like our embedded Enterprise Application Search, which will save users valuable time in navigating and searching within the system.”
