IFS Plant Design is a complete solution for administering projects, conceptual design, detailed design and documentation. Yet the solution offers even more support. For example, our solution enables users to work more efficiently with the plant register. The solution has its own register from which data, when they have been checked and approved, are transferred to the plant register proper. Since this is done automatically, it saves time in addition to reducing the risk of error occurring when information is transferred.
Recycling capabilities—familiar environment
Recycling, the capability to re-utilize information in the system, is the most appreciated part of our plant design solution. To give our customers value for every hour they have invested in generating information, we have based our Plant Design solution on a common design database that can be accessed by all project members. The result is that information is always updated and never needs to be entered more than once. Thanks to this common database, the latest version of the documentation is no more than a click away—for all project members. The ability to re-use information eliminates time-consuming duplicate entry, leaving more time for creative work. However, perhaps the individual user most appreciates the user-friendly interface. By combining the benefits of MS Explorer™ and MS Excel™, IFS has developed an interface that most users find familiar. This makes works easier and more efficient because the processes and feel are familiar. If they choose to use IFS/Personal Portals, they have another simple interface that makes it as easy to work with IFS Plant Design as it is to surf the Internet.
Pre-study and pilot projects at lower costs
Before investments are made in production facilities, profitability must be assessed via pre-studies and pilot projects. During this initial phase, it is particularly important to minimize costs. IFS solution for Plant Design and IFS/Document Management make this possible. Rebuilding or extension projects, where Plant Design has already been used, can leverage the stored data, saving time and money in the process. It’s likely that IFS/Document Management will also be used, linking all documentation—drawings and wiring diagrams, for example—to the object and greatly enhancing availability. IFS/Document Management is a powerful tool for structuring information in the planned project from the very beginning.
Efficient maintenance from the start
When a facility goes live, maintenance is usually in its infancy. With IFS solution for Plant Design, this problem does not arise. Instead of manually transferring information from the design system to the plant register and inventory, which can take several years, the data are transferred automatically in Plant Design. This means that maintenance work and inventory can be planned during the design phase and will be up and running the same day the plant becomes operational. Furthermore, if maintenance is to continue to be efficient, changes in design, replaced components, and other changes must be followed up and noted. Here again, this is done automatically by Plant Design, which registers all changes, major and minor alike, in the plant register.
