IFS selected one of Sweden’s best places to work
Great Place to Work® Institute Sweden has named IFS as one of Sweden’s best places to work. After more than 27 years of open, democratic and innovative corporate culture, IFS remains an attractive employer for Sweden’s best IT competency.
Founded in 1983, IFS has established itself over the past 27 years as the leading software companies in Sweden, producing and delivering the ERP software, IFS Applications, to enterprises around the globe. IFS has almost 3,000 employees worldwide, 560 of whom are located in Sweden.
IFS has experienced strong economic growth in recent years and has a strong knowledge environment, with IFS targeting Sweden’s leading IT competence—freshly graduated as well as experienced seniors—as potential employees. Apart from having the right competence, it is important that new employees understand and respect the core values on which the corporate culture is founded.
“A strong culture cannot be taught; it has to come from the values that are a natural part of the corporate environment. At IFS, that environment has been tightly coupled to openness, democracy and freedom with responsibility. Simplicity is also important—in the way we work internally and with our customers—and we shun unnecessary bureaucracy and needless procedures. We also try to find new ways to work that promote further innovation and productivity,” said Thomas Petersson, Senior Vice President, IFS.
An example of this is the transition to more a more agile development methodology whereby employees in Sweden work with colleagues in other parts of the world in independent development teams that identify, develop, test, and deliver new products much faster than before.
“Naturally, a faster time to market for our products has commercial benefits, but it is also important to us that our employees enjoy their work. In general, we see a strong correlation between a good corporate culture and good earnings—which has been demonstrated in a number of studies*. We have enjoyed considerable financial success in recent years, which would not have been possible without the strong commitment of our very competent staff. More specifically, a sick-leave absence of 2 – 3 percent and a staff turnover of less than 4 percent gives predictability and the ability to further develop the product, our own organization and not least, our customers at the pace required by the market,” said Petersson.
Participating in focus groups, a large number of IFS employees have given their opinion of IFS as an employer. Based on the focus groups, the IFS Employer Value Proposition was defined:
1. Strong culture in which the individual is seen and people help each other
2. Opportunity to develop competence in a global organization
3. Pride in the product, IFS Applications, and our related expertise
A strong culture is crucial to continued success for IFS. “Satisfied employees perform better and stay longer. IFS develops and delivers an advanced business-critical product to demanding customers. We are dependent on knowledgeable employees who have worked closely with the product over a long period of time,” said Petersson.
