Seadrill upgrades and extends its use of IFS Applications
Seadrill Limited (Seadrill), a global drilling operator, has entered an agreement with IFS to upgrade to the latest version of IFS Applications and to expand the solution to new areas. The contract includes consulting services and has a value of approximately SKr 12 million.
Seadrill is present in 14 countries and operates a large number of drilling rigs worldwide. The company has been an IFS customer since 2001 and has implemented IFS Applications components for purchasing, logistics, and maintenance. The upgrade also involves Seadrill’s subsidiary Seawell.
IFS Applications is used on the drilling ships that operate around the world, often under harsh climatic conditions.
“IFS Applications is an excellent, stable tool for keeping the drills continuously operational. IFS Applications supports our work processes for operation, support, and logistics in a streamlined, efficient manner. With version 7.5, we get access to new industry-specific functionality for our global operations. Greater flexibility and new functionality make the new version more attractive, which means that we can substantially reduce the number of customizations and take advantage of IFS’ best practice,” said Egil Hope, product manager for maintenance systems at Seadrill.
Bearing in mind that the rigs are often in areas with bad or no network lines, communication with the main database in Norway must be done via satellite.
“Our field of activity is continuously developing, and we depend on flexible solutions both technically and functionally speaking. IFS Applications 7.5 is built on a more compatible service-oriented architecture (SOA) platform, which will make it easier for us to make changes ourselves. All in all we see significant payback associated with the upgrade and are looking forward to going live with the new solution during the first half of 2009,” said Hope.
“Seadrill has grown a lot in the past few years and it has been interesting to be part of the journey. Through close cooperation, our knowledgeable consultants have focused on delivering to Seadrill what they needed at each moment. This contract shows that we have succeeded and we are now looking forward to a continued cooperation with Seadrill,” said Glenn Arnesen, managing director of IFS Scandinavia.
