Damen Shipyards and IFS: A Maritime Software Success Story
In 1922, two brothers, Jan and Rien Damen set up a shipyard in Gorinchem, The Netherlands, which became the foundation for Damen Shipyards, which has grown thanks in particular to Kommer Damen, the son of Jan Damen. Kommer Damen introduced the unique concept of building standardized series of hulls, making it easier for the company to deliver faster at lower costs. As a result of this strategic choice, Damen Shipyards has grown quickly in recent decades. Subsequently, the company grew through acquisition, at national and international levels. To better support these developments, Damen shipyards selected IFS Applications as the basis for all its business information. IFS has since delivered better insight into the global supply chain, real time support for project-based operations and a single version of the truth with no more data silos.
