Polish Naval Shipyard Gdynia S.A. further streamlines operations with IFS Applications
IFS, the global enterprise applications company is conducting the second phase of implementing IFS Applications in Naval Shipyard Gdynia S.A., Poland. The implementation will bring the yard increased control, efficiency and competitiveness. IFS Applications functionality implemented in the first phase, which ended in March 2008, has already brought reductions in cost and delivery times.
Naval Shipyard Gdynia S.A. is involved in the maintenance, construction, repair, conversion and modernization of Navy vessels, commercial and fishing vessels, and technical as well as special-purpose vessels. The company also constructs special equipment, products and spare parts. Additionally, the shipyard provides special services such as docking, designing, subcontracting, forwarding, storage and testing. In May 2007, as a consequence of the range of its operations, the shipyard decided to implement the latest version of IFS Applications to replace its legacy systems and streamline its operations.
Naval Shipyard Gdynia S.A. chose IFS Applications because of its strong functionality for critical business processes in project-centric industries. The system is currently used by approximately 40 shipyards around the world, and IFS has demonstrated that it understands the challenges that the company faces. Another reason was IFS’ strong presence and proven ability to implement ERP systems in Poland.
The implementation process was divided into two phases. The first phase, from May 15, 2007 to March 31, 2008, included financials, purchasing and material management, human resource management and payroll.
Currently, the second phase of the implementation is taking place which largely extends the scope of the project and includes sales, manufacturing, project management, document management, and maintenance. The second stage is scheduled for completion in the second half of 2009.
The shipyard has already reported a number of benefits from utilizing IFS Applications. Purchase and storage costs have been decreased, and the time from order to delivery has been reduced.
Currently there are 450 users of IFS Applications at the Naval Shipyard Gdynia SA.
IFS Applications offers project-centric capabilities that have proven to be a good fit for shipbuilders around the globe.
