Polish public transport provider MPK Cracow streamlines business processes with IFS Applications

IFS, the global enterprise applications company, announces that public transport provider Miejskie Przedsiębiorstwo Komunikacyjne S.A. Kraków (MPK Cracow), has upgraded its IFS Applications™ solution, realizing enhanced efficiencies in areas such as project and document management, as well as warehousing and maintenance services.

  • Efficient project management and improved cost control of 260 trams and some 500 buses
  • Mobile support for warehousing

MKP Cracow provides transport services in the Cracow metropolitan area through a modern fleet of low-floor trams equipped with advanced passenger information system and air-conditioning, as well as buses which meet the highest European environmental protection standards. Every day, MPK Cracow provides its services to approximately 1 million passengers. MPK Cracow has been using IFS Applications since 2002, supporting key business processes such as financials, warehousing, and maintenance services.

The upgrade has enabled MPK Cracow to streamline project management and document flow, enhance cost control, and implement mobile solutions, such as barcode scanners, to improve warehousing efficiency. By using mobile devices to manage work orders, basic warehouse operations can be performed by both warehouse staff as well as by other groups, such as mechanics and shift managers.

Thanks to the IFS Enterprise Explorer user interface, the company has also improved user experience and ergonomics. MPK Cracow also plans to establish a central vehicle base using IFS maintenance functionality and deploy mobile solutions to support its vehicle repair and maintenance workshops.

“Our main goal was to improve project execution and streamline document flow in our company,” MPK Cracow IT Director Mariusz Wawak said. “The IFS document management solution allows us to improve cost control, while the mobile solution has enhanced warehousing operations support. Our employees also appreciate the benefits of the new ergonomic user interface.”

“We are pleased to announce the successful upgrade project at MPK Cracow and we are proud of the continued trust the company has placed in our product and services,” IFS CEE CEO Marcin Taranek said. “IFS Applications is highly suitable for public transport companies, supporting key business processes such as project execution as well as vehicle service and maintenance. We are convinced that our solution will help MPK Cracow streamline its operations and improve the level of transportation services provided to the residents of Cracow.”
