IFS Enterprise Technology Solutions

Open. Intelligent. Autonomous.

We take a practical and pragmatic approach to incorporating innovation into our solutions, combining software expertise, deep industry knowledge and customer input to bring high value use cases to life with our enterprise technology.

We care about creating software that’s a joy to use. Software that’s simple to tailor to needs and ways of working. Software that enables automated processes and tasks in increasingly intelligent ways, with Open APIs so that you can integrate our solutions, like our ERP technology, CRM systems, and more into the bigger picture of your business and IT landscape to derive maximum value at every step.

To that end, we offer you the choice to work the way that suits you best – whether that’s in the cloud or on-premise, and we strive for continuous improvement with continuous updates to drive value with our enterprise software technology. And as we continue into the era of the intelligent and autonomous enterprise, the ability to apply AI technologies to help you solve problems, drive automation and improve experience is key.

Technology for the intelligent, autonomous enterprise

Engaging user experience

We understand that to transform your business, realize new opportunities, handle change, and deliver high quality products and services every day, you need people to be engaged and committed to what they do. We believe this is much easier to achieve if people appreciate the tools they use to do their jobs. That’s why we’ve created a user experience that lets people do their jobs is an efficient manner, helping them along rather than standing in their way.

Our Aurena user experience is a state-of-the art responsive browser-based experience, covering all solution areas. This means you can run our solutions on any iOS, Android, Windows, MacOS, Linux phone, tablet, laptop or desktop.

Our user experience is built as a consumer-first design using state-of-the-art technology. Consumer-first means that it looks, feels, and works more like consumer software, but with additions and improvements to make it work well for larger and more data rich enterprise contexts. State-of-the-art technology means it uses the very latest HTML5, Angular and Progressive Web Applications (PWA) technologies.

The main user experience is complemented by offline-capable native mobile apps for areas such a field service, and chatbots for many casual user tasks.

Open APIs

In an increasingly connected and automated world, an important principle is that anything an application can do, should be possible to do using APIs. This makes it possible to integrate any data or process handled in the application within the scope of other software, to extend the application on the outside, to automate activities in the application, and much more.

That’s why our solutions come with native RESTful APIs based on the OData standard. REST and OData are ideally suited for enterprise software and well supported by tools and platforms used for solution extension, integration, and reporting, as well as other ERP, EAM and Service software. The fact that our own user interface uses these same APIs guarantees that anything you can do through the user interface, you can also do using APIs.

We strongly believe that the more software vendors there are that are prepared to take an open approach to APIs, the more everybody benefits. This is why we are proud members of the OpenAPI initiative, which is focused on evolving and promoting vendor-neutral API descriptions.

High value, low impact tailoring

The fact that we provide broad and deep capability out of the box, whether you are implementing a point solution or wall-to-wall ERP, EAM and service, does not negate the value of tailoring. There is almost always value to be found by tailoring the solution to your specific needs, for example by configuring the user interface or process flows. And all your implementations have some need for bespoke integration or reporting.

We want you to be able to make the solution yours, while at the same time being able to move forward and apply updates on a frequent basis. That’s why we provide high value, low impact tailoring. We offer three ways to tailor your solution, and each provides clear value and impact.

Configure using “consultant” or “super user” friendly designers and tooling. For example, using our Custom fields, Lobby designers, and the new Aurena page designer.

Extend on the inside, using our layered architecture and declarative development, to clearly separate customizations from the core application to realize the highest productivity.

Extend on the outside by using our open APIs in combination with low code development platforms like Mendix, PowerApps and Outsystems, modern integration platforms like Snaplogic, or by developing in JavaScript, Java, .Net or whichever language you prefer.

Cloud and On-Premise

When it comes to adopting our software, we remain committed to our principles of choice, parity and openness.

Choice whether to run in the cloud or on-premise. Choice whether you want an all-inclusive, Opex-only SaaS service, or whether you want to own a license for the application. Choice by not limiting you to our cloud offering, but also allowing you or a partner of your choice to operate our solutions in the cloud or host them in a more traditional way.

Parity in that the solution you get in the cloud is not majorly reduced in capability, but is the same great application as on-premise. And equally, that new functionality and innovations are not made available exclusively to those running in the cloud.

Portability so that you can go from on-premise to the cloud, and from the cloud and back again should you want to do so.

Our solutions are engineered with technologies and architecture that enable us to take advantage of the scalability and services of the public clouds that underpin our cloud offerings, while at the same time providing a high level of portability across clouds and to on-premise deployment.

Applied AI

For us, the important thing is not AI in and of itself, but how it can be used as an enabler within our solutions. AI is an enabler - a set of tools that can be used to solve business problems. A key point in how we leverage AI in our software is that we abstract away the complexity and deliver solutions that are robust and powerful in their use of algorithms and data science, but easy to use and understand for non-technical data specialists.

This is evident in how IFS Aurena Bot uses AI technologies like natural language and image processing to deliver a conversational interface to perform self-service tasks. Or in how our scheduling and optimization engine for field service uses neural networks and machine learning algorithms to optimize work scheduling in the field.
We leverage AI technologies to support four categories of solutions:

Interaction – how we interact with the software running our business, and how the physical and software worlds interact

Optimization – how we can solve complex problems to make the most effective use of our resources

Prediction – how we can understand what’s going to happen, like the probability of a machine breaking down in the near future, and incorporate that knowledge into our business

Adaptation – what we can learn from how we and others have done things in the past to perform better and improve our business processes

IFS Labs

Another way we drive innovation is through IFS Labs. The mission for IFS Labs is to help us make better strategic product decisions, and to shorten the time from vision to realized solutions. Within IFS Labs we can try new ideas and innovations, including some of a “wilder” and more experimental nature. Much, though not all, of what IFS Labs does eventually results in new products and capabilities. For example, our product offerings for Internet of Things (IoT) and chatbots both started as IFS Labs projects.
